Description

The National Association to Prevent Sexual Abuse of Children estimates that in the United States alone $24.3 billion and indirect costs at $69.7 billion are lost or tied up in abuse related cases, and that includes churches and schools and other values driven organizations. It is difficult to address Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) due to the sensitivity of the topic, as well as the near-invisibility of its victims. According to experts, there is massive underreporting of the problem due to fear, shame, and a resistance to believe minors’ disclosures of abuse: only one in 10 children tell; 42 percent of women and 33 percent of men never disclose the experience to anyone.
